I'd been talking about it for so long, I really thought it was never going to happen. But after going through a lot of reading, a lot of testing and some good conversations with people in the know, I made the plunge and got the 7D. And I have to say, after only having it for about 12 hours, it's a real thing of beauty.
I went to Precision Camera here in Austin (an awesome local camera store) yesterday and got the 7D body plus a zoom. All of my lenses are primes (28mm 1.8, 50mm 1.8, 85mm 1.8) and I've been wanting a zoom for a while. I'd been looking at the Canon 28-135mm for a while, thinking that it would end up being my first zoom lens, but the guy at Precision showed me a Sigma lens which offered the same Ultrasonic motor and Image Stabilization with a greater zoom range and a comparable price, so I picked up the Sigma 18-200mm zoom and I'm really excited about it.
Sadly they were out of the battery grip for the 7D, so I'm ordering it from Amazon and it'll be here this week. I'm also going to get a couple new 32GB CF cards, as my old 4GB and 8GB cards will only hold a couple hundred photos each now that I'm shooting 18MP photos instead of 8MP photos. Plus I want to be able to record a lot of the new HD video and the 32GB cards hold about 48 minutes each.
I'm heading out today to the Gypsy Picnic here in Austin and will be, of course, taking my new camera out for it's first real day of shooting. I'll post up some pics later on...
